visit wineries all the time, and when we do, we usually end up talking with the winemaker
about how he makes his wine. One of us is thrilled by these conversations because
they’re opportunities to learn more about why wines taste the way they do. But the
other one very quickly gets bored; who cares how wine is made, as long as it’s
wonderful?
It seems that there are two types of wine lovers
in the world: the hedonists, who just want to enjoy wine and find more and more wines they
can enjoy; and the thinkers, who are fascinated by how wine happens. (The hedonists call
the thinks wine nerds).
If you’re a thinker, you’ll enjoy
discovering what’s behind the differences in wines; and if you’re a hedonist, a
little knowledge can help you discover more wines than you’ll enjoy. Of course, this
is the thinker speaking.
